Kami Lunsford

I’ve been sharing my love of learning with students, educators, & organizations for my entire career. As the director of a middle school music & theater department, I’ve used laughter & the performing arts to help students find their place in middle school & promote personal & academic success. I credit exceptional, visionary K-12 teachers in my rural, west Tennessee upbringing for my passion to provide opportunities in creativity & leadership that equip students for their future wherever it takes them. My music ensembles have performed in nine states & extensively in Tennessee, recording at Studio B in Nashville, LIVE at Graceland in Memphis, & alongside performers like Knoxville star, Chris Blue. Many of my students have pursued careers in music, performance, church music, theater, & education.

Two time Middle School Teacher of the year for Knox County Schools, I have served my school system through leadership and collaboration on improvement initiatives. In 2021 I was named Tennessee Teacher of the Year, & I now collaborate with advocates and innovators all across the country. I support teachers and future educators by being part of the Tennessee Arts Academy Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University through facilitation, podcasts, & member engagement with educators, administrators, corporate sponsors, & artists all over the world.

As a teacher, I learned kids needs JOY to learn and work hard toward personal goals. People & organizations need JOY to learn, grow, and make change. Making folks laugh can unite, inspire, & empower people to start making moves, & that is MY JOY.
